Jesus wept.
My mom came home yesterday, told me that Ms. J over the children’s ministry in the OC needed some “new blood” in the teens ministry and that Ms. J was really hoping that I would come in and work with them.
Well, upon graduation I did say that I would go out and help the chirruns. Then I started having all these doubts “oh, I’m not worthy enough to make an impact”, ” how will I relate”, “how will I get them to respect me but at the same time know that I’m there for them”, “how will I be a leader…a good role model?”. Well, I’ve come up with the answer *wait for itttttttt* NOBODY IS PERFECT! *whew* Ain’t that something! We all make mistakes, we all have our demons, if we wait to do something once we’re “perfect”, it will never get done! And please believe those teens need me, someone who is old enough to know that there is more to life but close enough in age to KNOW what’s relevant to them.
See, what they have now is a 60yr old man facilitating their group. Now, I know that some older people are able to stay relatively current * I do actually know one…so hate to admit it
*, but ole buddy ain’t one of them. Sometimes they’ll discuss the same topic for like, a month, and the kids will be bored to tears. They have a curriculm but he’s not using it effectively. The purpose of this group is to help them with their issues and to get them to think about things in a different way. To learn the skills they need to cope with life.
I knew this was something I was supposed to do when I got chills all up and down my body when I was describing the timeline project I wanted to implement. The Lord will have to be my strength cause I know they gone try me but ya know, they don’t want that cause I will get “real” with them. They ain’t ready!
I will go to facilitator training in February and then I will begin to sit in on the classes and see how they are run. I did facilitate one class back in the day and them kids are off the chain but it’s b/c they have nothing to do and little to no structure.
Ya know, this brings up something else. EVERYBODY *I’m so not exaggerating…allll 8 aunts and uncles* in my family is an educator in some form or fashion. I think the bug just bit me! Although I will not go the traditional route *I’m business minded*, me loves the kids and want to see them grow and accomplish their goals. *gagging cause that was sooooo GPTV and PBS afterschool special* Oh well, gotta love it!
