My 4th of July History Contribution…
Where do I begin? Blogsome ate my nice long post but I will do the best I can.
For the last 3 or 4 weekends I have been helping Ms.B (my former middle school librarian) organize her apartment for her sisters arrival. Since I hadn’t gotten over there last weekend, I called her up yesterday to see if she needed any help. She said “yep” and I went on over.
When I got there I was greeted by her son B and her godson L. These cats are silly, loud and hilarious. I was a bit peeved b/c I couldn’t tell how old they were but I learned that tidbit at the airport.
My main job was to help the menfolk with the bookcases. I was to clear those off, have the men move them, and put the books back. I completed that, then went on to keep the men focused *I promise they both needed some ritlin*, supervise picture hanging, and other odds and ends. B and L kept me cracking up! I have been dubbed “Book girl or Book filler! *said with british accent*” lol. These cats were hilarious.
So I finally get around to asking Ms.B when her sister is coming. She said “oh, today! her plane lands around 4:30″ I quickly looked around and the place was in shambles…but you know how we do *poppin collar* it was spic and span before we left.
Ms. B was gracious enough to invite me along to the airport and I obliged because I wanted to be apart of history. I rode with L in his lovely champagne 2 seater 5-speed Infiniti *ohhh how I loved that ride* And B drove his mom in their car.
We arrive at the airport with cameras and signs reading “Welcome to the U.S…S&T!”
Sidenote: Now we’re waiting for S&T to come down the escalator. B and L were crackin jokes and playing and pulling me into their debauchery. Good times. Now B and L are over there taking pics of pretty girls “for research” and I just had to ask these cats how old they were. Lawd jeebus. At first they flipped it by askin me how old I was. I was like “22″ and then L gave me a great compliment “wow, you have a maturity about you. You are calm and collected. *big cheesy grin* They went on talkin about other things but I asked again. L said “How old do we look?” I told B he looked like mid thirties leeeeeaning on 40 and I told L he looked in his mid thirties. Lawd Jeebus wept. Now these men are handsome and I was thouroughly enjoying standing in between them. When I say black don’t crack…it don’t even chip. Good Lawd. I later found out that B is in his mid forties and L *the one I rode with* is 44. *my heart sinking* Lawd Jeebus. I was like “man, you’re two years younger than my mom!” He was like “noooooooo, weird!”…lol…old man…lol. End Sidenote
Ms.B’s son makes movies and intends to make this into a documentary. My job was to take still shots, while B handled his heavy duty camera, and L worked the back up DVD recorder. Man, when S&T came up, it was like lookin at Ms.B’s twin. All except for the fact that S is from London and she’s white *letting that marinate* …Good, great, ok. S looks exactly like Ms.B but B pointed out that she looked EXACTLY like his grandpa. Ms.B and S are half sisters connected through their father. T, her husband, works with steel and was very pleasant. He built his own boat out of steel and it took him 10yrs…talk about a labor of love!
After grabbing their luggage, chit chatting and pulling the cars around, we headed to Ms.B’s apartment. They thought it was great. After they settled, we went to dinner at a place called Arizona’s that has live jazz on tues and sat. The food was good, convo was great and I had my first Cosmopolitan…it was aight but not something I would always order.
So yep, I was apart of history. Once I get the whole story I’ll be back here and let ya’ll know. But yes, Ms.B has a half sister around her age who grew up in London and decided to find Ms.B after being diagnosed with Breast Cancer. S always heard rumors but she decided she need to know. This was a great reunion. There was no animosity just happiness and curiosity at how the other lives. It was great. S&T seems like very open people. They are headed on a week long road trip so that Ms. B can show her where their dad grew up and introduce S to the rest of the family. Ms. B’s son will be taping it all and I look forward to seeing the finished product.
Cheerio!
